WHAT OUR GUESTS SAY

OUR STORY
When retirement was looking like a possibility, Kevin and I took a road trip and fell in love with Barrydale as we came over the hill from the parched Karoo landscapes (as one does) - seeing a little oasis settled neatly into the valley. We both love the harsh, breathtaking landscapes of the Karoo, and we both love the fynbos floral kingdom, having spent some time in Pringle Bay. So here was the perfect spot - on the cusp of the Fynbos and Karoo, offering peace and tranquility.
We bought some land planted with Merlot grapes and waited till the time was right. We built Doorways and moved into our new home 8 years ago. Kevin has since transformed the garden and Doorways has seen many friends, family members and strangers-who-leave-as-friends staying over and breathing in our fresh air and tranquility.
My remarkable Grandmother and Grandfather built an annex onto their farm house in the Northern Cape called "Doorways". They hosted and homed many a weary traveller and loads of family and friends in the annex - hospitality was one of their many strengths. I chose the name "Doorways" for our new home in honour of the original - hoping to offer the same "home-from-home" to those who choose to visit us here in our special piece of paradise.
